Photo Album: Basement-Level Structural Repair Restores Stability in Little Rock, AR Home
Rick D. of Little Rock, AR, knew that the structural issues in his home wouldn’t resolve on their own—and left unaddressed, they’d only get worse. His house, built uniquely into a hillside, resembles a split-level or basement-style home, though it's technically two full stories due to the incline. Downstairs, the space functions as a man cave and basement, while the upstairs holds the main living areas. Rick had noticed unsettling signs: the master bedroom and adjacent office floors were sinking nearly an inch, and the beam supporting these rooms below had developed a noticeable bow. Upstairs, he observed further settling, with a half-inch drop between two interior walls, while downstairs, the slab in the man cave’s northeast corner had sunk nearly two inches.
To permanently stabilize the home, we designed a custom solution tailored to Rick’s layout. Our plan included installing interior slab piers along the wall separating the man cave from the downstairs bedroom—strategically targeting the areas most affected by slab movement. We also used PolyLevel®, a high-density polyurethane foam, to lift and level the sinking floors in both the man cave and the adjacent bedroom. To further reinforce the structure, we installed two SmartJack® XT supports beneath the bowed main beam in the man cave, which carries the load from the master bedroom and office above. Rick was fully informed about the process, including the need to drill through hardwood flooring and roll back carpet for proper installation. He also coordinated furniture adjustments to ensure optimal SmartJack placement.
Thanks to these targeted repairs, Rick’s home is now supported from below with a system designed to withstand future settlement. The once-drooping floors have been lifted, and the structural beam is now reinforced to properly carry the weight of the upper level. Rick can now enjoy his man cave—and the peace of mind that comes with a stabilized home—for years to come.
